 a scandal on the rhine Designed for gracious entertaining, this circa-1896 residence is situated along the shores of the Rhine amid lush gardens. A white-painted iron gate opens to a tableau encompassing a splashing fountain, towering boxwood trees, and the villa with beautiful period architecture. The exterior of the home retains many original details of its time, including unique stucco ornaments that have been preserved unaltered through renovations in 1992 and 2002. An understated elegance permeates the interiors, which are equipped with gorgeous marble and oak parquet flooring among many other fine finishes. The living areas span three floors, 11 rooms, and roughly 440 square meters, or 4,736 square feet. The cellar level offers a temperature-controlled wine bar, perfect for hosting guests on formal or informal occasions. A two-apartment guest house is found elsewhere on the verdant grounds of 4,500 square meters, or more than one acre, which are elevated to provide stunning views over the river. Weißenthurm is a quiet village across the river from Neuwied, in convenient proximity to Koblenz and Bonn, and just over an hour’s drive from Frankfurt. (On paper, this house exists only as a footnote at a German security company.) |
